Moving can be a daunting task, and is perhaps the most time-consuming aspect of purchasing a new home. These tips will help your move go as smoothly as possible.

Packing

1.) Give yourself enough time
You should start packing at least three to four weeks before your scheduled move date (longer if you have an above average amount of possessions to move - and don't we all!) Pinnacle Lending can supply you with color coordinated packing labels to help insure all boxes are labeled properly and make it easier for all those helpers to put the boxes in the right rooms at the new house!

2.) Pack one room a day
Choose a single room to pack first, and pack it slowly and carefully. Do not move on to another room until the first room is finished.

3.) Put all key items in places where they are easily accessible
It’s extremely important to pack all of your necessities (like toiletries, TV remotes, medications, and anything else you’ll want to find quickly) that makes their retrieval as simple as possible. You may even want to consider packing these types of items in their own boxes.

Moving

1.) Transport sensitive items and equipment yourself.
Never put financial records, computer equipment or other important items on the moving van. Take these types of things over to your new home yourself.

2.) Move Gradually, if possible.
If you have time, make improvements (yard, paint, minor custodial items) before you move. Take items gradually to your new home making multiple small trips. Set up as much of your home (like unpacking dishes you don't use often) before your big moving day.

3.) Set up kitchen first
As we all know, eating is of the utmost importance - for this reason, make sure that your kitchen is the first room you unpack and organize when you move into your new home.

4.) Supplies to keep on hand
Large garbage bags are a necessity. You may also want to have cleaning supplies handy; cold drinks, snacks, and some folding chairs are invaluable for both you and the movers during moving day.
